Melancholy Disaster on the Baltimore Steam Boat
A Baltimore bound steam boat carrying about one hundred passengers from Baltimore caught fire near Gettysburg. The vessel burned ashore along the riverbank, causing many to jump overboard or cling to the wreckage. Several lives were lost including a gentleman and a lady, with others saved by quick actions of bystanders. Coroners will investigate at Cherry Hill while authorities note multiple drownings and injuries.
