Devastating Chile Quake Shocks Conception and Talcahuana
Reports aboard the Coral describe the March 20 earthquake that levelled Conception with about 25 000 inhabitants and destroyed Talcahuana and surrounding villages. Shores, hills, and towns washed away by 25 foot waves left hundreds dead or destitute. early tallies range from four to five hundred in the region with many more missing as relief efforts begin.
