A lengthy exhortation urges reconciliation when offended, advising mildness and effort to heal breaches. It contrasts forgiving hearts with the dangers of calumny and praises patience, unity, and the Christian duty to seek peace among neighbors and within families.
In Modena Italy workers drilling to sixty three feet uncover alternating layers of chalk and vegetable earth. At fifteen feet lie ruins of an ancient city with paved streets and mosaics. Twenty six feet down grow intact trees with walnuts on the stems while shells fill a chalk bed, continuing in alternating layers to the determined depth.
A farm house lady preserves bacon by salting it then layering on stone shelves with brine draining into a basin. After drying she coats with lime water, packs in a cool corner with alternating lime and bacon layers, and keeps it sealed for years. Also notes an amusing incident about a dull saw and a pun-filled remark about saws.
The text proclaims that guardian spirits hover over human paths and that every pure thought is an angel of mercy safeguarding the soul. It urges parents to lead by example, training a child in the way they should go and following that same path themselves.
