Suicide by 40 foot tree plunge in Suffield
Mr Alanson Pease of Suffield Connecticut died after leaping from a 40 foot tree while bareheaded and intoxicated. He had shown signs of mental distress from dissipation in weeks prior and believed he would swim when he jumped. He died about an hour later. The report notes intemperance and deranged state of mind preceding the death.

Progress of the War: Battle with Black Hawk near Blue Mounds
From Washington Globe August 11, official intelligence dated July 25 reports Gen Henry with his brigade and Gen Dodge with Michigan Volunteers pursuing Black Hawk’s Foxes and Sacks. They attacked July 21 on the Wisconsin bank opposite Blue Mounds, defeating the Indians with about 40 enemy killed and many wounded. Our loss was one killed and eight wounded. Black Hawk fled to an island in the river, sending his women there. The report praises both forces and notes the war may end soon with peace restored on the frontier.
