At a Democratic meeting in Columbia County Pennsylvania a resolution against McKay tariff was adopted and a ruling declared support for no candidate opposed to protection for American manufactures and coal or whose principles on this topic are doubtful. The county previously gave Polk electoral votes.
The Philadelphia Pennsylvanian reports the volunteers in service will be divided between two new Major Generals. Clifton Patterson will command those from Tennessee Georgia Alabama Mississippi and Texas. Gen Buller will command those from Ohio Kentucky Indiana Illinois Missouri and Louisiana.
