An Albany Daily Advertiser excerpt tells of two Glasgow women and their eight children who, after years of hardship in Britain, trek on foot through brutal winter from Ramsay to meet their husbands in Fall River, Massachusetts. Enduring hunger, cold, and exhausted bodies, they press on with their infants and young children, aided by sparse charity and later St. Andrew's Society support. The account praises female endurance and contrasts with heroism in literature, noting the husband’s pursuit to reunite the family and repay the charity received.

Wanderers traveling from Johnstown were guided to a tavern kept by Mr Shields on Washington Street opposite the Western Hotel where ten travelers were warmly hosted from Saturday to Wednesday. The managers refused payment, praising the host for offering hospitality and hoping others will follow his generous example as travel rewards return in greater abundance.
A Friday morning blaze in a bakery rear sparked the Lafayette Theatre fire in Manhattan. The theatre, extending from Laurens to Thomson streets, burned within two hours, with about 28 nearby buildings damaged or destroyed. The theatre cost $100,000, was mortgaged to Henry Yates, had no insurance, and overall losses reach about $75,000 including property and theater value.
The Augusta Chronicle reports a terrible conflagration on Ellis Street spreading to Broad Green and Centre Streets. The blaze destroyed the market, theatre, and many buildings up to the Bridge Bank area, reaching toward the suburbs near Mr. Course's piano factory.
