General Grant Gorxo To Europe Sailings and Military Moves

General Grant is to sail for Europe with the Navy Department seeking a large vessel. Capt Ammes, former school master and current commander of the ironclad Miartosoma, will transfer to the transport. The Miartosoma is set for a short cruise in nearby seas. The Freedmen’s Bureau chief in Lexington, Virginia, notes ill treatment of freedmen and warns troops may be required if locals do not improve. General Lee’s Reconstruction testimony is challenged, and a Shermson remark about a soldier beating a mule leads to a quip about impostors claiming to be Sherman.
