Dedication of Pennsylvania Memorial at Gettysburg Draws 72000
At Gettysburg the Pennsylvania memorial was dedicated Tuesday before about 72 000 observers including over a third of Pennsylvania Civil War veterans. The event featured a parade by Scotland Orphans Band and Gettysburg College students, and speeches by General Huidekoper and Governor Stuart. The monument, costing 140 000, is a white granite arch with a dome and a colossal victory statue, bearing bronze tablets listing every Pennsylvanian who fought at Gettysburg.

The first meeting of the Liberty township Teachers' association convened at Grayson's school house on Friday evening September 23. A fine program from the school followed with topics on Geography and Elementary history by A Mae Kugler and Lucy Bowl, and WES Sanitary Drinking Vessels by W D Hull. Five teachers were present. Deaths of Harry O. Young and John Houser in Pennsylvania
Harry O. Young, managing editor of the Hanover Record-Herald and a longtime figure in Pennsylvania newspaper, political, lodge, and firemen circles, died Sunday from heart failure at 54. He served as president of the Board of Education and secretary of Hanover Fire Engine Co. No 1 for 25 years. Automobile Kills Horse In McKnightstown Cashtown Crash
In a Wednesday evening collision near Cashtown Sloward Garvin’s automobile struck William P. Weikert’s horse, badly injuring the animal which was later killed. Weikert and his wife were unhurt. the buggy damaged and Garvin’s car only slightly damaged. Garvin continued to Gettysburg after the impact. The horse had been a four year owned, noted as among the county’s safest.

Train wreck near Thurmont injures engineman and delays service
A Western Maryland passenger train from Hagerstown to Baltimore sideswiped an eastbound freight one mile west of Thurmont. Engineman H W Straw of Baltimore was bruised and shaken. seven heavily loaded freight cars derailed. The passenger engine derailed but no coaches left tracks while surgeons assessed injuries as trains were routed through Gettysburg due to obstructed tracks.
