The Philippoteaux Battle of Gettysburg painting arrives in Gettysburg and will be hung inside the cyclorama building. The eleven sections, twenty eight feet high, will surround the interior and be exhibited soon after completion. The work is moving along at the new structure with an entrance fee of twenty five cents expected to generate notable revenue.

Edward H. Rowe of Emmitsburg through Wood & Wood petitions Frederick County court to be relieved from paying costs in the protest against Lawrence L. Mundorff license to sell liquor at the Emmitt House. Judge Worthington sets May 15 for hearing and for Mundorff to show cause. Rowe’s costs total about 75 dollars, Mundorff has paid nearly 50 dollars.

The State Highway Department has stripped signs reading State Highway from posts on the Chambersburg and Gettysburg turn pike to prevent tourists from objecting to tolls since the state does not own the pike yet. Longstreet Defeated in Gainesville Postmistress Fight
Mrs Helen Longstreet widow of a Confederate general failed to win reappointment as postmistress of Gainesville Georgia. President Wilson consulted Georgia senators before nominating H W J Hamm. Burieson reported poor office management and an appeal to the Senate was sent by Mrs Longstreet. Tramps Put to Work Cleaning Roads in Carlisle Borough
A group of six tramps in Carlisle were ordered to work by the borough police, armed with brooms to sweep the street as punishment. They had already faced bread and water confinement for two days and were warned to leave town upon release, only to return to drink and cause disturbances.

Fire near Caledonia scorches 300 acres of timber
Firebugs set a forest blaze about two miles southeast of Caledonia on State land. Though not caught, their actions burned 300 acres of pin oak and pitch pine, nearly reaching a plantation with 5,000 newly planted seedlings. State students rangers and fighters battled the flames for six hours to quell the fire.
