Death and Funeral of Rev Dr James W Richard
Rev Dr James William Richard died at his home on Seminary Ridge after a six day illness from uraemia aged 66 years 23 days. He was born February 14 1843 near Winchester Virginia educated at Winchester Academy Pennsylvania College Carthage College and Wittenberg College later teaching and serving as Lutheran minister and educator. His death ends a long career in ministry education and authorship with ties to Gettysburg College Lutheran Seminary and Lutheran Quarterly. The funeral at College Lutheran Church drew former students and clergy with services led by Rev Henry Anstadt and addresses by Rev Dr W H Dunbar and Dr J A Singmaster, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery. His widow Marie E Coffinberry survives with siblings and notably Rev Asa Richard Lovettsville VA. Many clergymen from distant states attended.

Tragedy Strikes McSherrystown Resident Edward Overhaugh
Edward Overhaugh a well known McSherrystown resident shot himself Wednesday afternoon leaving critical injuries. He had been drinking earlier and went to the barn behind Rhinehart's saloon where gunfire followed. Doctors George L Rice and A C Rice treated him at home where he remains in danger from possible blood poisoning. He is about 35, married with several children.
