Gettysburg and Adams County faced one of the worst winter storms in years, cutting telegraph and telephone lines, delaying trains, and stranding mail. Rail service was crippled by eight foot snow drifts near Good year's station, with multiple engines needed to free stuck cars and a derailment later in the day. Rural postal carriers struggled through deep snow and mud, and many local sales were postponed or canceled.

A farmer and carpenter, he is survived by his wife and three sons William Charles and another son at home. Brothers William and David Wagner of York County also survive. Funeral Monday at nine in the morning at Mommert's Meeting House.

Williams Clepper Dies at 74 in Carlisle
William Clepper a former York Springs resident died at 8:30 p m Thursday night at his Carlisle home. Born near York Springs he moved to Carlisle in 1839 then spent years west returning to Gettysburg before settling in Carlisle. A saddler by trade he ran a Carlisle store and was a longtime Methodist, esteemed by many. He leaves several children. Funeral plans not announced here.

Boy Killed While Riding Freight Train near Guilford
Merle High aged 14 son of Edward High of Chambersburg was killed at Guilford Station six miles south of Chambersburg on Monday afternoon. He boarded a freight train for a ride and fell from the train, dying at about 1 30. The incident occurred on the Western Maryland Railroad near Guilford.

Miss Blanche Gallagher, 18, of near Cashtown, reported a felonious assault on the Chambersburg pike at Unlucky Hill. John M. Douglass, a 21 year old New York born tramp, was captured near Fayetteville and jailed in Adams County after identification by the victim.

A lamp exploded in the attic of Peter Carbaughs residence about 9 oclock Monday evening near Blue Ridge Summit along Dogtown road. The fire caused partial destruction, occupants including nine or ten children escaped unharmed, and the Blue Ridge Summit fire department extinguished the flames before reaching the second floor. Loss not exceeding 300. Furniture removed. house five rooms.
