Death claims Breshtown boy after long illness

Robert E. Warner 40 limitson died at York Hospital Monday evening after months of suffering from a leg injury and bone disease following a buggy accident near McSherrystown in August 1912. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Harvey Warner of Breshtown. Funeral services will be at his home then Bart's meeting house Union Township with Rev S A Crabill officiating.

Francis X. Smith Rites Set In Conewago Chapel

Francis Xavier Smith aged 73 died at his daughter’s home in Oxford township after a long illness. He farmed in Mt. Pleasant township before moving two years ago. Survived by one son William and two daughters Mrs. Frank Hemler and Mrs. Harry Smith. Funeral Wednesday February 26 with high mass at Conewago Chapel. Interment in chapel cemetery. Ephraim Sanders died at his daughter’s home in Fountain Dale aged 67 years with five brothers and one sister surviving. Funeral Saturday at noon from the house and service at Fountain Dale Methodist Church, interment in Union Cemetery Fairfield.

Samuel Alexander Gilliland aged 78 years 8 months 22 days died at his son W F Gilliland's Gettysburg home after a brief pneumonia illness. He was born in Straban township and attended Great Conewago Presbyterian Church. Survived by a son in Gettysburg and a daughter in Straban. funeral at Galliland home interment in River Green cemetery. Mrs Miles Clapper of Huntington township died after a week with pneumonia at age 30 years 11 months. She leaves a husband and two children and her parents Mr and Mrs Barney Kemper Bermudian. Funeral from the house with burial at Lower Bermudian Church.

Reverend J N Currens born in Gettysburg in 1856 died February 12 in Traer Iowa from pneumonia. He moved with parents to Illinois at age four and later entered ministry after working in business. He spent most of his life in Iowa and had many relatives in the area.

George W. Young Dies After Civil War Service

George W. Young a Gettysburg native died February 2 in Shelley Idaho at age 96. Born in 1845 he served in the Civil War and planned to attend the Gettysburg celebration in July. He moved to Iowa in 1878 and in 1911 went to Shelley to live with a daughter. his body was taken to Clarinda Iowa for burial.

Mrs William Sheaffer Dies at Home on South Mountain

Mrs William Sheaffer died at her home along the South Mountain on Friday evening. She is survived by her husband two daughters Mrs Annie Bear and Mrs Elsie Yohn and four sons George John Lewis Sheaffer and Charles all residents of Franklin township. The funeral was held at Gardner's United Brethren church at Latimore Wednesday morning.

Walter Schurman age eight months, son of Mr and Mrs Samuel B Schurman of Conewago township near Indian Run, died Monday evening from capillary bronchitis. Funeral Thursday February 27 from the house at 9 o clock with services and interment at St Pauls Dubs church conducted by Rev D B Lau.

Miss Valeria Forney died at her father Edward Forney's home in Mount Joy township on Tuesday at about age 30. A former Adams County schoolteacher she leaves her father and several brothers and sisters. Funeral on Thursday at 10 o'clock.

Harman Meals died after a lingering illness at his daughter Mrs. Emmett Weaver’s home in Mechanicsburg on Monday evening about 8 30 o’clock. He was aged 66 years and 8 months.

Gettysburg College basketball won a thrilling game against Franklin and Marshall 25 to 23 after a score tied 20 apiece at full time required a five minute overtime. Reports from multiple farm auctions show cattle topping $60 per head with steady demand. Sawyer Brothers sale in Union township drew about 900 attendees, totaling $8438.62, best horse $242, best cow $52, mules $352, hogs $6 to $48, chickens $500. Injury Drives Man to Death by Own Action

Solomon Shearer a 47 year old blacksmith near Abbottstown died by hanging in his barn after years of injury from a horse kick and a Hopkins hospital operation. Robbed aged couple leads to arrest in Maryland

Three men Alf Decker Jim Saville and Chester Holies planned a daylight robbery at the home of Mr and Mrs Levi Smith in Whipp's Cove Fulton County They found 1400 in a bureau drawer and hid the loot Decker Saville and Holies were captured by Officer Heller in Hagerstown The men went toward Pittsburgh to avoid arrest and had spent stolen money including a gold piece and a 20 bill The trio was jailed in Hagerstown after arrests by Officer Heller with Former Sheriff Jere Mason present.

Senate considers new Adams Cumberland road bill in state plan

State Senate discusses Hoke of Adams Franklin district bill to let the Highway Department take over a public road in Adams and Cumberland counties. Proposed route runs from Mount Rolly Springs through Hunters Run and Alga to the Cumberland Adams line then to Mount Tabor and Bendersville. Alternate Sproul route would go via Aspers and Idaville. Hoke supported Bigelow's reappointment as state highway commissioner while Collins voted against the Local Option bill, which failed.

Good Neighbors Help Build New Barn Near New Oxford

A large turnout in New Oxford saw neighbors and friends haul lumber by horse and wagon to Emanuel King’s farm for a new barn. Clinton Cashman, of New Oxford, will oversee construction with a carpentry crew after a fire destroyed the previous barn in October. Train delayed by fire near Hagerstown upsetting Waynesboro schedule

An accident on the Western Maryland Railroad near Hagerstown Tuesday night delayed the Waynesboro line for three hours. Passengers were unloaded at Edgemont and kept warm as a New Windsor woman fell ill on the way to Waynesboro and needed care.

Runaway horses injure wagon at McMlhenny home

Two horses owned by King Mc Mhenny bolted on Tuesday throwing Mr McIlhenny from a wagon and crushing the vehicle. They dashed into the fence at the Mc Mhenny home and became badly tangled, but no serious damage resulted beyond the wrecked wagon and tangled animals.
