Camp Howard Opens With Full Military Ceremony

Bear sighting during Waynesboro drive on Gettysburg trip
George L. Strine and party from Waynesboro met a bear Sunday evening while returning from Gettysburg. Strine repaired a flat on Jack's Mountain when the bear appeared from the woods and approached their car. They fled down the mountainside, fixed the tire, then continued home. the bear was not seen again.

Boy Hurt By Torpedo At Goldenville Siding
John Groupe aged 10 was injured Wednesday afternoon at Goldenville Siding when a piece of iron fell on a torpedo near the track. Pieces struck him across the body causing discomfort but no serious injury. Doctor H. M. Hartman attended.

Mrs Charles Watson Dies in Chambersburg at 21
Mrs Charles Watson died suddenly in Chambersburg at 10 30 PM Monday aged 21 years. She was formerly from this county, daughter of John Mc Dermott. An infant child died about a week ago. The body was taken to Bendersville today. Funeral from George Freed's home Thursday morning at 9 30. Interment in Bendersville cemetery.

Railroad Telephone Between Hanover and Gettysburg
The Pennsylvania Railroad company has linemen building a telephone line along the Western Maryland Railway between Hanover and Gettysburg. The line will support a large number of trains during the battle anniversary with telephones installed in offices along the route and expert operators in charge to ensure safety and expedite train movements.

Finish Turnpike at Conewago Township Opens One Mile Route
The Conewago township supervisors Joseph Lawrence and John A. Bair completed a new turnpike from McSherrystown to Edgegrove, a distance of one mile minus twenty feet. The road costs $2,175, paid by the township. The width is 16 feet, standard for state roads.
