Grand Army Encampment in Gettysburg Brings Veterans and Officials

The annual Pennsylvania Department Grand Army of the Republic encampment gathered in Gettysburg in wet weather. Assis tant Adjutant General Charles A. Suydam and General St Clair A. Mulholland led planning and memorial discussions while officers were elected and the Ladies of the Grand Army and Women's Relief Corps reported gains in membership and activities.

Gettysburg Rural Notes Highlights G A R Encampment

Distinguished guests H and M Nevins of Red Bank NJ and Adjutant General Frank O Cole attended the Grand Army of the Republic sessions. Officers and committees reported routine work with about 100 G A R deaths last year. Women’s Relief Corps elected officers and Meade School portrait gift was presented. Scots Band and Soldiers Orphans School band drew praise. Local notices cover visits, birthdays, illnesses, and farm updates across routes 3 4 5 6 near Gettysburg through midweek.

Official returns show light primaries across the county

In Saturday’s primaries the county saw very low turnout with close results. GOP and Democratic candidates for Associate Judge, county commissioner, and state convention delegates posted tight margins amid a meager vote. A death notices report follows.

Arendtsville Loyal Temperance Legion Meeting

The Arendtsville Loyal Temperance Legion met at Stella Trostle's home on Wednesday June 18. Activities included music by the Legion Bible reading and a prayer by Edwin Rice. Elizabeth Sheely read, Ray Heiges sang, Beulah Minter spoke on Flower Mission progress, and a piano duet by Stella Trostle and Elizabeth Sheely. The group planned to meet June 23 at Edwin Rice's home. Local notes mention visits by John Kerner and family from Harrisburg and Alonzo Plank from Philadelphia visiting Daniel Plank's household.

Reverend Wineman Attends Love Feast at Upton

Rev. D B Wineman of the Church of the Brethren attended a love feast in Upton Franklin County on Tuesday. Over two hundred communicants and twenty visiting ministers filled the large church despite bad weather. He stayed with Elder John Lehner. Mrs David Dale, en route from her brother William McPherson’s wedding, returned to Pellefonte Wednesday. Sterling Valentine planned a summer stay at Mount Gretna with cottage neighbors Mr. and Mrs Herry Siegrist. A party of notable New York and Philadelphia residents, including Mr and Mrs J G Gilley and Miss Anna Gilley, visited and registered at the Eagle. Mrs Sarah A McCullough and granddaughter Sara McCullough were visiting Carlisle with W R McCullough. Mrs Albert Formosa and Kenneth are visiting Mrs Formosa’s mother on West Middle Street. Mrs Gladhill left for Jersey City for a stay with friends.

Mrs Jacob Hare Dies at 68 in Fairfield

Mrs Jacob Hare died Tuesday at her Fairfield home from a complication of diseases aged 68. She is survived by her husband and several children. Funeral Thursday morning with interment in the Catholic Cemetery, Airfield.

Big Time Bands to headline Arendtsville festival night parade

The Biglerville and P.O. of A. of Bendersville bands, totaling about fifty pieces, will lead a parade at 7 30 p m during the Arendtsville baseball festival Saturday evening July 38d. The Arentsville Glee Club is engaged, promising top entertainment for the season.

Abbotts Town 25 Cent Envelope Gift Inquiry
