In Mount Pleasant township a barn belonging to Sylvester Bawn burned Saturday night and authorities say Mrs Hawn, an alleged demented wife, started the fire. Neighbors helped save a wheat stack, while Hawn recovered clothing and later checked for papers missing from the home.
Thomas G. Neely of York Springs was badly bruised and confined to his room after a buggy accident on Shelley's hill. He tried to save his grandson Harold Gardner, who escaped unharmed, as the horse bolted and dragged Neely briefly before the right line wrapped around the wheel.
The York Cadets, seen in Gettysburg Memorial Day parades, plan a second mounted unit named Troop B while the existing company becomes Troop A. Two captains will be chosen and the new unit will be organized under the same laws as the original. The military academy and teachers’ instruction start September 1, with the corps in flourishing condition after celebrating its third anniversary.
An application has been filed with Governor Stuart to incorporate the Littlestown Milling Company. Proposed incorporators include George S. Kump GC. H.Basehoor BE. E. Reindollar Edward H. Sharetts and Norman Hess. The firm recently acquired the mill and warehouse of George F. Krug along the Northern Central Railway in Littlestown.

A barn on Erwin Myers farm between East Berlin and Kratl town burned around 10 PM Tuesday after catching from a traction engine left at the site. The fire destroyed crops, implements, and the threshing rig while all stock was saved. The owner of the threshing rig could not be ascertained.
The Second Ladies' All Day Run of the Lancaster Automobile Club traveled to Gettysburg via Columbia Wrightsville York Abbotstown and New Oxford with nine cars in June. Chairman Martin Rudy of the Good Roads Committee led the party. Guided by Charles Sheads the club toured Gettysburg and the battlefield then dined at the City Hotel before visiting the instruction camp. Walter D Spangler of route 2 spent Sunday evening at John Schwartz's home.
Will of Bloomington Illinois visits relatives recounts his boyhood in Conewago Adams County Brashtown and observes local progress. He left forty years ago for Bloomington now runs a furniture business with four sons including a general manager and a lawyer.
Mont Alto reports a rare Sunday night raid on Henry Hostetter’s hennery near the state forestry. A gang attempted theft but fled when Hostetter hesitated to fire his breechloader. Chickens remained in the coop, and no birds were taken.
Elaborate plans for the Knights of Columbus reunion at Pep Mar from August 18 to 21 are nearing completion. The event, the second in the order’s history, is expected to attract the largest gathering yet with Maryland’s several thousand members plus invited councils from Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Almost five hundred Adams County residents traveled to Mount Holly Park for the ninth annual county picnic. About 200 came from Biglerville and Arendtsville by train, with others from surrounding towns and Carlisle. Activities included dancing boating a baseball game Arendtsville vs Mount Holly won 6 to 2 and a new roller coaster drawing crowds. The special train returned to Gettysburg near 10 pm.
Henry R. Lower longtime Table Rock resident died at his home Friday morning after years of illness. He was 11 years old at death, born nearby and later worked as a farmer fertilizer dealer and storekeeper in Table Rock. Survived by sons Elson G. and Harry W. and daughter Mary E., plus brother Conrad. Funeral at 10.30 Monday from the house with interment at Bender's church.
Mrs Lydia Wagner Totton widow of Colonel Joseph Totton died at her Mechanicsburg home at midnight after a lingering illness. Born August 22 1829 in East Berlin she was 30 years 11 months old and a daughter of Samuel and Lydia Wagner. Survived by James M and Miss Margaret at home George of Dillsburg Mrs Annie Lehman Boiling Springs John and Frank Mt Holly. Funeral Saturday morning at 930 with interment at Chestnut Hill Mechanicsburg.
Early Thursday morning a freight wreck derailed three or four cars on the Western Maryland Railroad main line at Highfield. Cars were thrown into the ditch south of the track and caused only minor delay to excursion trains. A wrecking crew removed splinters and repaired the torn track over a short stretch.
A morning game at the Prep campus featured the Pirates defeating the Fighters 14 to 13. Batteries were Duncan and Buehler for the Pirates, Joney and Wiser for the Fighters.
A York dispatch reports the York Silk Manufacturing Company and Charles H. Emig have been seized by the Sheriff on executions from Citizens' Trust Company and Lancaster National Bank for 3600.58 and 5000 dollars respectively. The properties, mostly building lots, are to be sold by public sale on Saturday afternoon August 13 at 1 o clock, as no sufficient personal property can be located to satisfy the debts.
The twenty fourth annual Lutheran reunion for Maryland Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia and the District of Columbia drew over 15 000 attendees at Pen Mar. Music by the York chorus and Bee Hive orchestra accompanied the event. Rev A S Hartman of Baltimore stood in for the late Dr B Van Ormer of Shippensburg as general secretary. Next reunion set for July 20 1911 with G W Enders re elected chair of the reunion committee. Proceeds support General Synod benevolent work.
Mrs Elizabeth H D Mann wife of Rev J B Mann pastor at Lit tlestown died unexpectedly at Stone Harbor New Jersey where she had been a guest for five weeks She had been in poor health for long but the death came at 4 AM She leaves four children Bessie Reinhold Ardmore C C Burgassev York Packer Mann Philadelphia and another son near Philadelphia The body went to Ardmore for the funeral held this afternoon The couple recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in York during the Central Pennsylvania conference.

Five soldiers from a training camp rampaged along Baltimore street just after midnight, removing furniture from porches and placing items on trolley tracks. Signs from local stores were moved and redirected, a large plant was carried away, and a horse and buggy were taken to camp before being recovered by dawn. Police did not arrest the soldiers.

Harry A Guuk died at his Tyrone home at 4 am Friday from tuberculosis aged 34 years 5 months 3 days. Survived by wife and one son his mother one sister and four brothers in Carwonsville. Funeral Sunday at 2 pm from the Friends Meeting House Flora Dale conducted by Hiram Griest.
