Ignatius Poist, longtime McSherrystown citizen and cigar maker, died suddenly at his home after an indigestion and paralysis attack. Aged 58, he leaves a widow Rosa Sneeringer, children Helen, Bernadina, and Harry, and brothers William James and Harry. Funeral Mass at St Mary's Church on Wednesday.

Capt William Lanias Dies in York Rail Leader and Civil War Veteran
Captain William Henry Lanias, railroad builder and York developer, died at home in York City on Tuesday afternoon at about 80 years old. Born November 26, 1845 in Flushing L I he joined the Civil War at 17 as a private and rose to captain in the 67th Pennsylvania Volunteers. He later led major York transit ventures, helped establish the York Trust Company and York Board of Trade, and served as a longtime civic leader and G A R commander.

In Carlisle rumors spread that the Pennsylvania railroad may four track the Cumberland Valley from Harrisburg to Chambersburg with a junction at Newville. A four track line to Pittsburgh could cut nearly seventy miles from the present path, diverting Northern Pennsylvania shipments toward the Cumberland Valley as an eastern gateway to the South and Gulf port for water transshipment toward the Panama Canal.
