Advance Confirms William Wotherspoon as Major General
William Wotherspoon, who commanded the maneuver camp at Gettysburg, was confirmed Tuesday by the Senate as a major general of the United States Army after a prolonged, secret-fought battle. He married Nellie Staub about six years ago. she died last February. Survived by his father and step-mother and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Lawrence and Mrs. Pius Topper. During the night of January 8 thieves forced open smoke houses at the residences of EB R Chronister and Henry Kaiser near New Oxford and took all meat from two 300 pound hogs and three 80 pound cans of lard.

Teddy Fogle Fatally Injured by Falling Tree on Farm
On a Thurmont area farm, five year old Teddy Fogle grandson of Solomon Fogle was struck by a falling tree while watching timber work. The limb crushed the skull and paralyzed his left side. his left leg broke. He remained unconscious most of the day, rallied briefly at night, but recovery is unlikely. The boy, known as Teddy, lived with his grandfather near Carl Gall’s farm, and had grown up around the workers. The accident occurred at about 2 pm when a tree turned as it was felled, and a heavy limb struck him despite workers’ shouts for him to move. He was transported to the house for medical care by Dr. E. C. Kefauver. prognosis is very poor.

Little Girl Hurt by Cow Kick at Mt Pleasant
The daughter of Mr and Mrs John Ferry near Galdens Station Mt Pleasant township suffered a scalp wound from a cow kick while playing. The injury extended about 4 inches above the forehead over the right eye and required around twenty stitches. A physician treated her and she is recovering.
