On Monday at about 1 38 pm residents rushed to the saw mill of Felix and Tawney, then learned only shingles burned at William Shindledecker's roof. People traveled by horse, buggy, or on foot, with a fast pedestrian reportedly two miles in fifteen minutes. Local carrier spread the rumor and many waited for proof.

Fire swept a large frame barn on the Westminster road seven miles south of Hanover in Myers District Maryland destroying the barn wagon shed bog pen and all stock including several cattle horses and hogs 600 sacks of wheat 15 tons of hay and tools The loss is estimated around 1500 with partial insurance The origin is unknown The family slept through the blaze neighbors aided but only one steer could be saved and some fences.
