Obituary notices recount multiple deaths in the region. Jose phine Elizabeth Cole aged young, Barbara Elizabeth Crouse of Hanover, Myrtle E. Mickley of Chambersburg Street, Mary Lafferty of Idaville, and Nelson F. Mathews of Cumberland Township are all listed with surviving relatives, burial details, and funeral plans.
Nevin Oliver Harmis of Littlestown and Gertie G Dillon of Punxsutawney obtained a marriage license at the Dauphin county recorder's office and were married by Squire Martin Zoll. The bride, a widow, is eleven years older than her groom. He is a 26 year old boilermaker and she a dress maker. They left to continue their vacation as husband and wife.
A marriage license was issued in Dauphin County on Wednesday to James H. Raffensperger of Gettysburg and Mary Garlin of Penbrook.
The Motor Club of Harrisburg plans a 40 mile sociability run to Gettysburg on Friday September 2. Cars travel at 15 mph with two secret checkers along the route in Mechanicsburg Dillsburg York Springs and other towns. Three gold prizes are awarded for timing accuracy with a battlefield tour at Gettysburg.
The Gettysburg National Guard company was organized in the Elcher Building on Wednesday evening with C. William Beales presiding. William McG Tawney elected captain. Charles Thorn first lieutenant. Russell Coulson second lieutenant. Tawney, a major in the Pennsylvania Sons of Veterans Reserves, and Thorn and Coulson bring military ties. The group aims to join the state organization as Company M of the Eighth Regiment, listing members including Donald Huber, Maurice Weaver, Ross McAllister, Kent Mears, and many others.
Sheriff Fissel arrested a traveling group of six wagons and thirty people near Willoughby Run. At Squire Harnish court, a $50 fine and costs were levied after disputes over fortune telling, then a county license was issued for $50 per county. They may stay for one year.
Adjutant General Stewart distributed pay checks to Pennsylvania National Guard units for services at the Gettysburg camp. Totals show 126 310.98 across brigades and regiments. main disbursement 124 210.99 not counting horse hire and commissary bills yet to be determined.
On Tuesday Cumberland Valley Railroad officials rode from Caledonia to Gettysburg and back in a Packard track automobile. The truck, used at the Guard camp for freight, demonstrated how a heavy solid tire machine could travel the pike.
George B and L C Otto sold a Cumberland county tract rich in white clay to Harrisburg Clay Co led by E W Rinkenbach for 12900. The deal follows five years of lease holding and 14000 in revenue. McClellan Whitcomb sold adjoining 30 acre clay to the same company for 4000. A brick plant costing 200000 will open near the tracts employing over 100. Miss Charlotte Basehear departs for Ephrata to teach at the high school.
The Ford Motor Car Company will run a complimentary automobile tour from Baltimore to Gettysburg this Saturday for about sixty customers and prospective buyers. The party will stay in Gettysburg until Sunday noon and will stop at the Eagle. John A. Cox has left on a ten day trip to Baltimore and Atlantic City.
Tuesday night a Pure Oil Company line pipe burst on Samuel Bair’s farm near Swartz’s school house in Conawago township. Workmen struggled for 48 hours to fix the leak as large volumes of oil flooded the area causing alarm. On Wednesday the oil in the field ignited, with flames visible for miles.

The Christian Endeavor society of Bethlehem Lutheran church Borders ville held a social at W C Weaner's home on Wednesday evening. An interesting program featured recitations dialogues and solos. The Citizen's Band of Bendersville performed several selections and was thanked by the society. Refreshments were served. About two hundred twenty five attended.
A five foot bald eagle was shot by Harry Tanger near Mt. Sully Springs after the bird hovered over his fields for hours. Initially believed to be a giant hawk, experts later identified it as a rare bald eagle, long believed extinct in the area.
Daniel Myers suffered a severe cut to his foot while working at the saw mill of Herbert A. Myers in Hamiltonian township. An ax glanced off and inflicted a deep gash. He was taken to Fairfield for dressings by a physician.
John Spottswood, foreman during 1858 59 construction of the Adams County Court House, visited the building with his daughter. He recalled supervising the doors, benches, and the cupola bell, noting modern additions while expressing pride in his early contracting work.
