Soldier Killed in Long Fall at Winchester Hotel
Cornelius Driscoll, 29, of the Fifteenth United States Cavalry, staying near Winchester, fell from a third floor City Hotel window in Hagerstown early Sunday. He died en route to Washington County Hospital after being found unconscious on the sidewalk. A coroner's jury ruled the death an accident. Driscoll, well known to Gettysburg residents, appeared to sit by the window to smoke a half-smoked cigarette before the fall.
