Bohemian Girl ends Chautauqua in Gettysburg
Gettysburg Chautauqua closes after a week of top tier performances led by the National Opera Quartet in Balfe’s Bohemian Girl. Junior Chautauqua entertained while 500 plus tickets and new subscriptions buoyed hopes for next year as Florentine Band, Dixon lectures, Alpine Singers, and Batts Dickens impressions drew large crowds.

Old McClellan Cemetery Reclaimed by DAR
Gettysburg Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution have taken charge of the old McClellan Cemetery along Marsh Creek west of town. They have repaired, cleaned, and painted the grave markers, restored the grounds, and moved some headstones to Evergreen Cemetery. The site, once neglected, is now a well kept historic landmark with slate monuments dating from the 1700s to the 1800s.

Heavy rain paused Judge Lindsey’s address as J L Taylor led the crowd in America. Next year’s Chautauqua program promises high standards, and Mrs. Houck will award prizes to Gettysburg schoolchildren for essays on Judge Lindsey’s work.

Looting at Blue Mountain House Ruins After Fire
Hundreds from Waynesboro and nearby towns visited the Blue Mountain House ruins after a Tuesday morning fire. Looters sought silverware and jewelry as authorities deployed deputies to guard the scene. A Pittsburgh man who helped guests fled with items and planned to return them to the hotel owners.

Frank Myers of New York City, eldest son of Mr and Mrs F Myers of Bermudian, is touring Europe. In a recent letter he reports he and two companions walked forty miles across the Alps in Switzerland, three miles of which were over snow from inches to several feet deep.

Miss Mary Bollinger Dies at 92 at County Home
Mary Bollinger, aged 92, died at the County Home on July 27. Funeral services were held the following Tuesday, conducted by Reverend J. B. Baker.

Death Claims Two Gettysburg Citizens
Jeremiah M. Rowe a longtime Gettysburg merchant died at 2 a.m. Thursday at his corner York and Stratton street home aged 77 years 5 months 23 days. He founded the Red Front store on Baltimore Hill in 1859 then ran a harness and saddlery business on Carlisle street before a later return to grocery work. Survived by widow Margaret Catharine daughter of Nicholas Shriver one son Robert R. of New York two granddaughters and two sisters. Funeral Friday at 10 a.m. from his home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Hog cholera hits town as three hogs fall ill
W. C. Little reported Thursday that three hogs were sick with hog cholera. Dr. Hudson diagnosed the cases, and the State Livestock Sanitary Board has been notified to prevent spread.
