Gettysburg topped New Oxford 4 to 2 on Nixon Field in a well played game watched by a large crowd. Essick hit a three base drive for New Oxford in the third. Townsend starred on the mound, driving a three base hit in the fifth and retiring the side in the seventh. New Oxford loaded the bases in the eighth but failed to capitalize, scoring two on a misplayed grounder before the inning ended.

In Arendtsville on a Friday morning John A. Knowss and George B. Minter noted 69 snake tracks in dust along the Narrows to the church graveyard, as Bran L. Carbaugh counted 68 on the same route. Snakes move little in hot dry weather, seeking water at night via Conewago Creek.

Bite by copperhead injures Mt Zion resident
Mrs Louis Smith of Mt Zion area near Pen Mar stepped onto the porch Friday to fetch water when a large copperhead coil on the door step struck her ankle. With no doctor nearby she treated the bite at home as her ankle swelled and she endured intense pain.

Fire at Wood House Sparks Small Town Alarm
East Berlin fire officials reported a blaze Sunday morning at the wood house of William Sunday, hotel proprietor. The fire started from ashes and hot coals dropped the previous night. Only minor damage resulted and emergency crews contained the flames quickly.

Wagon wreck on Chambersburg street after trolley rut
An accident occurred on Chambersburg street on Friday afternoon when M. D. Swope of route 8 Gettysburg lost control as his wagon wheel caught in a trolley track rut. The hub broke and the wagon tipped. a second wheel also demolished. The wagon carried bran and belonged to W. J. Swope, the family butcher.
