Seminarian Defrauds Banks In Gettysburg Scam
A man posing as a seminarian named George C. Parker stayed ten days at Gettysburg Theological Seminary then defrauded Miss Ella Toot of $15, Citizens Trust Co of $60, Gettysburg National Bank of a $70 certificate and a tailor, leaving town Thursday. He attempted more fraud at Augusta National Bank, with checks drawn on that Georgia bank, and at local shops before vanishing. Authorities believe he aimed to study for ministry while practicing thefts.

Fire Destroys Large Trestle Near Maria Furnace
A 75 foot Tom's Creek trestle west of Maria Furnace burned around 3 am Saturday, likely started by coal from a passing freight engine. Western Maryland traffic was delayed as passengers were shuttled around the scene. The horseshoe bend location at the foot of the mountain has historic wrecks. Reconstruction work began immediately.

Woman Falls in Cellar With Lamp and Knife
Mrs. Luther D. Roth near Bender's Church fell while descending cellar stairs with a lighted lamp and a large knife. She blew out the lamp, flames scorched her hand and wrist, but she escaped serious injury besides burns on one hand. Earlier she also tackled a large black snake with a hoe, then killed it.

Death of Allen Hersh in New Oxford at 73
Allen Hersh a longtime New Oxford resident died suddenly Tuesday evening at his home from acute indigestion at age 73. He was born in New Oxford attended Pfeiffer College and worked in the Treasury in Washington before stints in Colorado Meadow Valley and later living with sister Mrs Louisa Clippinger. Survived by sister Mrs Clippinger and brothers James Hersh Gettysburg and Paul Hersh Dayton Ohio, with nieces and nephews. Funeral Thursday at his home with interment in New Oxford cemetery.

Arthur Rife aged about 18 of near McSherrystown employed at the Hanover shoe factory had his left arm crushed from elbow to fingers when caught in a die machine on Wednesday. He was returned home by John Hertz, with Dr. J. H. Bittinger summoned. no bones were broken though the arm is badly crushed.

Dogs Pursue Deer in Caledonia Park
A doe escaped a dog chase after being driven from South Mountain into Caledonia park where it collapsed exhausted on the grass. Neighbor Harry Furry scared off the dogs with a gun and the deer, after resting briefly, returned to the mountain. A prior chase also sent a frightened deer into the park but it escaped unharmed.
