Council Again Asks For Bids On Light Plant

Minutes from the January 14 meeting show bids will be opened February 18 at 7 30 p m in City Hall for the city light and water plant. December 17 1928 saw Oklahoma Gas and Electric bid 65000 and Teigtmeier interests bid 36500 plus 7500 for a second year lease on the water plant. The board favored the latter bid and citizens filed an injunction. The board sought a writ of prohibition in Supreme Court. case pending.

Stilwell Tax Rate Drops Aids City Saving Citizens

Stilwell lowers its tax rate to 5.52 per hundred dollars this year, down from 6.94 last year a reduction of 7 811 73 based on a $550 122 property valuation. Officials credit economy in estimating needs though the Stilwell levy remains county's highest due to sewer bonds and improvements.

County to receive home demonstration agent at no cost

Miss Anna H Deihl district supervisor announced at the County Advisory Committee meeting that the extension service will bear the full expense of placing a home demonstration agent in Adair county. The agent will work with the county agent on 4 H club activities for girls, organize local women s clubs, and form a county federation, aiming to place women and girls on equal footing with men in extension work. Expected arrival is by March 1.

Stilwell Pirates Defeat Checotah 9 to 8 on Home Court

Stilwell defeated Checotah 9 to 8 in a tight, low fouling contest on Stilwell's court. Holt scored six for Stilwell and Foshee added six for Checotah as defenses limited scoring and late free throws sealed the win.

Oklahoma House votes seven impeachment charges move to Senate

The Oklahoma House of Representatives voted seven impeachment charges against Governor Johnston and forwarded them to the Senate, which immediately formed a court of impeachment. Acting Governor Holloway notified Johnston of temporary duties transfer, while Johnston said he would avoid dual governance and not resist suspension. Political lines showed Republican W T Clark leading opposition in the Senate and a 38 to 3 vote on notifying Johnston of suspension.

Thieves Return Stolen Goods After Fear of Detection

Thieves who burgled Johnson's store on Saturday night returned the loot on Monday morning and dumped it on the railroad right of way in the northeast part of town. Early Sunday they broke the back window, took shirts, overcoats, overalls, a neat, other items, and about a dollar in change from the cash register including a burned Buffalo nickel kept by Johnson. A passerby alerted the sheriff.
