Jerry Smith harvests peanuts on 43 acres owned by his uncle near Stratford. The Oklahoma peanut crop is just beginning its annual harvest and should be in full swing within a week or two.
Oklahoma forester promotes home planting of fast growing black locust trees to cut future wood costs. Gardner of the Oklahoma Agriculture Department says locusts thrive on marginal land, grow twice as fast as other hardwoods, and supply more heat than oak or hickory. Seedlings cost six dollars per hundred with a minimum order of one hundred, shipped bare root and COD.
