Inadequate Salary Forces Murray County Sheriff to Quit

Gary Fullerton, a former schoolteacher who won the Murray County sheriff’s job by 118 votes, resigns due to unpaid salary and understaffing. He lacked law enforcement training, faced a cash-strapped office with no fingerprinting, and fought for federal grants to improve radios and jail needs. He cites underfunding by the legislature and a heavy 15 hour workday as reasons, while criticising the system and seeking other work.
