Pontotoc county reports $732 770 50 in Third War Loan bonds sold by Tuesday night, leaving a remaining quota of $1 235 500. County chairman H J Huddleston urges continued effort and insists every eligible person should buy a bond.
Sunshine school district hosts a pie supper bond sale as part of the Third War Loan Drive. Families gather under the trees to bid on bonds through an auction led by Bob Sammons. The event ends with bonds sold and a community plea for support to fund the war effort.
Oklahoma City September 15. Oklahoma car dealers hold about half the nation's remaining new cars. Dealers have 1438 machines on hand enough for two and a half months at current sale rates. National supply lasts about five months. August highway traffic in Oklahoma was 21 percent below August 1942 and 43 percent below August 1941.

Director J Edgar Hoover announced the Newark New Jersey arrest of Portuguese citizen John Da Silva Purvis 43 on charges of acting as a German spy. Purvis allegedly received two cash payments and sent responses through couriers containing code words and a list of 16 assignments on warship construction Pearl Harbor losses convoy information and bases in Central South America and Africa.
Northwest African air forces hurled every plane over the Salerno bridgehead in a 24 hour assault. More than 2,000 sorties targeted Salerno to Eboli with heavy bombers and fighter-bombers, while Libera tors and other units joined sweeping operations. The action, near Salerno and Eboli, included a curfew move in Lawton to curb juvenile delinquency.
Allied forces repelled German counterattacks at Salerno while expanding air and naval support. The Fifth Army fought fierce close combat from Salerno to Agropoli as British and American forces push toward Belvedere and reinforce the coast line.
