Field day planned at Knox City plant materials center
Field day and tour will be held at the Soil Conservation Service plant materials center at Knox City on Sept 18. Tours run 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Livestock producers seed dealers and others interested in improved plants are invited. Texas Forest Service director Paul Kramer will speak. new grasses forbs legumes shrubs and other plants under evaluation will be discussed. About 1500 strains of more than 300 plants are grown at Knox City. The goal is to find strains benefiting livestock and wildlife for range seeding shoreline protection and saline soils. Selections proven superior are released to seed growers for public sale.
