Ada County Fair Opens With Free Admission And Night Contests
Fair officials bustle through preparations for the Ada County Fair opening Monday September 16 through Thursday September 19. 4 H and FFA youth groom livestock and craft entries while committees from the Chamber of Commerce and Ada clubs run concessions. Grandstand events include a baseball tournament among Byng Vanoss Stonewall and Roff with games at 7 p.m. each night. Old Settlers Day and Old Fiddlers contest tempt attendees with cash prizes, and Gladys Brown miniatures showcase quarter horse trophies. Entries accepted 7–9 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Rules Allow 30 Acres Wheat for Use on Farm
The U S Department of Agriculture issues general provisions from recent legislation enabling farmers with wheat acre- age allotments under 30 to grow up to 30 acres for on farm use only. The rule applies to 1958 and later crops, not 1957 or earlier. It also states that 1958 harvest wheat seedings beyond allotment are not counted toward future state county or farm acreages.

Oakman Sports Plan to Build New Clubhouse
Oakman The Sportsmens Club met at the president George Carter home with about 70 attending a chicken dinner. Visitors included Curtis Van Horn Francis Rey and Mrs Scott Jones and Robert Denson. A building committee was named to plan a clubhouse to be built near the club. The committee chaired by Don Evans also included L A Ven Horn Drexel Sales Perry Smallwood and J N Nance with Ladies Quilting Club members. The group planned to start construction as soon as possible.
Quite a Dog in Ahloso Area Confounds Rumors
Residents believed a big cat roamed near Ahloso after reports of a lion or tiger. Newt Thompson sighted a roving animal near Matthews ranch and fired in vain. Game ranger Virgil Williams identified the print as a dog track, noting the large size but denying a cat or wolf.

Ada gains state’s only practicing woman veterinarian
In Pontotoc County Ada welcomes Dr. Betty Self, Oklahoma’s lone actively practicing woman veterinarian, working with her husband Dr. Leon Self and Dr. Don Williams to care for the county’s animals. Betty, from Odessa Texas, and Leon from Albion near Talihina both graduated from Oklahoma A&M in May and chose Ada to start their practice. Initially some residents doubt a female vet but acceptance grows as she proves her qualifications.
