Ada sees a major gas discovery two miles west with the Badger well yielding about 4 million cubic feet daily at 1100 feet. The operator plans to hold the well and drill another northwest while forecasts suggest two or three more wells will meet city demand. The find could boost real estate values and attract factories seeking cheap fuel.
The First National Bank has grown to metropolitan size with deposits just under 335000 and loans totaling about 262000. Charley Bartlow of Barton Kansas visits the Woods families and may relocate to the area due to favorable impressions.
Little Rock reports clear weather and a record vote as Democrats led by Joe T. Robinson faced Republican A. Roland and Socialist G. E. Mikel. Voters weighed two referenda and three constitutional amendments including a statewide prohibition measure. Early returns hint wets ahead in some towns. Negro turnout against the grandfather clause noted.
George H. Bruce W T. Sims M Lloyd and other Confederate veterans arrived home from Ada after attending the reunion. Mrs Walcott Ardmore Daughters of the Confederacy and Stella Carter sponsor Miss Carter maids of honor joined. Veterans praised Ada hospitality noting generous meals though counterfeit tickets were used. Streets and buildings were decorated with Stars and Bars and Stars and Stripes.
The ceremony ended with a rendition of God Be With You Till We Meet Again and Gen Hailey adjourned the gathering to Muskogee next year. Hon W M Franklin of Madill delivered the day’s address while committees detailed plans for a history book on Indian Territory during the war and the next reunion’s agenda.
The Stevens-Wilson Co begins a vigorous ad campaign for the latest goods. They report a fine new line of ladies suits from Bischof and strong offerings in men’s clothing. An array of shoes and a show window exhibit feature the season’s styles.
Kingston oats buyers report $30,000 to $40,000 paid out this season with C. H. Terry alone at $19,000. Some oats remain unsold in Kingston.
The Ada Public schools opened with a record total enrollment of 838 students. High school 401, Irving 302, Willard 135. Supt. Robison and teachers are praised for strong performance as the community pledges continued support.
Representative Oliver H. Akin of Moore has filed a motion to dismiss his appeal from secretary of state rulings against his education consolidation bill. The Oklahoma Supreme Court has not yet acted on the motion.
Mrs. Wolfe of Denison, currently spending the summer in the West, is the guest of Mrs. George Frierson.
William G. McAdoo acting chairman of the Democratic National Committee says Maine’s loss does not predict national results. He notes Maine is a Republican state driven by local issues and cites historical Cleveland campaigns to argue Democrats can win in November with Wilson and Marshall favored in Maine.
In Okmulgee Oklahoma F A Garrison and Dr C A Post faced preliminary hearings on $1000 bail for denying black citizens CERTIFICATES to register before the primary. They are charged with depriving rights of citizenship by refusing registration. Other defendants Bert Hodges J C Miller and G A Dooley await hearings. U S District Attorney Gregg of Muskogee prosecutes.
Mineral Wells Texas Sept 10 Judge A W Berrell of Austin author of the Terrell election law and ex Minister to Turkey died in his hotel room yesterday afternoon found at 6 30 after being dead several hours. He had been out riding earlier with Judge Swayne Fort Worth K K Leggitt C C Com. Dere Abilene and Z T Fuller Austin. The body will be shipped to Austin via Fort Worth today. Portland reports Republicans win state contest and gain governorship with William T. Haines. Progressives act as party after election, with electors to be nominated by petition as Progressives, Prohibitionists and Socialists pursue petitions. Official results show Haines 70,880 to Plaisted 67,848, a 3,032 margin. Senate 23 Republicans to 8 Democrats. House 79 Republicans to 72 Democrats.
Judge Galbraith reports from Oklahoma City that the Frisey railroad will start building a new concrete depot in Ada soon. The depot will sit on the east side of the track on Main Street, eliminating side-tracks and improving through-traffic access.
A pumpkin raised by Tom Shannon near Fitzhugh will travel to the state fair. Weighing forty seven pounds, the large pumpkin demonstrates Pontotoc county soil fertility and notable agricultural yields.
This morning the Stratford and Ada W. O. W. uniform rank Companies left on a special Brisco car for Muskogee to participate in the state encampment. The Ardmore camp followed in a decorated special car with banners and flags.
G P Carney will tear down the old frame building between the Allen livery stable and the Aldrich building and replace it with two brick business houses two stories high. This completes frame structures in Ada's business district aside from the Byrd hotel, making the area a desirable commercial section.

The Ada mill is running full time and producing superior flour and meal. New machinery installed during the summer improved output and quality, and M. E. Jones, formerly of Arkansas, arrived recently to take charge.
