Unified Fund Raising Plan Seeks End of Charity Dollar Scramble
Cleveland’s Chamber of Commerce leads an in plant unified fund drive to reduce multiple charity solicitations. The plan, already piloted in several plants, would direct about one third of one percent of monthly pay to a single drive for the Community Chest and selected charities. It faces opposition from national agencies and Red Cross chapters preferring separate campaigns. Detroit and Michigan show similar efforts. The plan aims to cut solicitation time and costs while preserving key agencies’ roles.

Hunters Find Ancient Camp Site of Yuma in Plains
Archaeologists report uncovering one of the era’s most important Yuma culture camps near Cody, Wyoming. Dr. Eiseley estimates the terrace covers about 100 square feet with tools and foundations, dating centuries before Christ. The site, five miles east of Cody, reveals Yuma hunting patterns and lacks bow and arrow use, offering clues to early nomadic life. The Cody expedition, begun Aug. 5, is led by Dr. Glenn Teper Sinclair with Princeton University backing, and the discovery was first made by James Ailan, a local collector and hunter.
