Butter Eggs And Sugar To Cost More Soon

Americans saw higher costs for basics like butter and eggs with a new surge in sugar prices. Beef prices were edging down though savings mainly came from hamburger. The AP checked 15 items in 13 cities monthly since March.

Food stamp overhaul options presented to President Ford

A White House task force offered four general options for reforming the food-stamp program, with two variants each, totaling a dozen platform choices. Some options project savings up to 1.7 billion dollars annually while one plan shifts to all cash, costing up to 500 million more yearly. The memo, prepared by James Cannon, notes political risks and pace, and leaves substantive advocacy to Congress.

Pontotoc County Fair Set With New Divisions and Events

The 59th Pontotoc County fair runs September 10 to 13 at the county fairgrounds with traditional events and new ones. Highlights include nursing home residents in a new arts and crafts division, honey exhibit incentives from East Central University Beekeepers, and a 4-H play day on September 10 featuring barrel racing and pole bending. Livestock entries close by September 13 with queen coronations that evening, while some divisions are cut this year and no entry or admission fees are charged.
