Lieut. Gen. Walter Kreuger criticized the Third Army's communications and staff work after a two day war game in Louisiana. He said the maneuvers costing 25 million dollars were well worth it and justified even if halted early.
London reports a renewed 24 hour bombing offensive by British bombers targeting Berlin Frankfurt and western Germany including Mannheim and Nazi occupied ports Ostend and Dunkerque. Nine RAF planes were lost as raids met anti aircraft fire with limited German air activity and no casualties.
Senate hearing heard railroad executive J. J. Pelley say 20 000 tank cars could move 200 000 barrels daily from Louisiana and Texas to the Atlantic seaboard within a week. He urged reduced tank car rates and noted loading facilities remain a bottleneck.
Atlantic City promoters expand the Miss America pageant prelude by requiring rivals to reveal family backgrounds. A 17 year old Ada youth traded clothes with a neighbor then hitchhiked out of town. He crawled through a window, swapped outfits, filled a suitcase with the man’s clothes, and fled. Second degree burglary charges filed. he has not been apprehended.
Two county commissioners rejected claims for more than $500 in cleaning fluid and disinfectant bought for the courthouse. Commissioners Elmer Chandler and W F Morris said they knew nothing of the purchases. George Collins, the purchaser, was absent. Purchases included 115 gallons of cleaner and 65 gallons of disinfectant.

Eight boys from nine to fourteen appeared before County Judge Driskill on Wednesday for thefts at Branscome's Grocery. The offenses included stealing ice cream, candy, cigarettes, and other items valued at about 12 to 14 dollars. The judge continued questioning them in the afternoon.
Explosions and fire at a Welland Chemical plant in Niagara Falls Ontario killed three men and seriously injured seven or eight others. Officials in Ottawa described the blast as purely accidental and announced production would resume on schedule. Victims tentatively named include Angus McDonald of Port Robinson and Lloyd Cahill of Niagara Falls, with James Martin Desjardines of Niagara Falls dying in hospital.
