East Central State College to expand staff this fall

East Central State College will add three new department heads, several replacements and nine new faculty members amid growth in students and course offerings. Changes include Dr. William Wray as English chair, Ed Coyle leaving business education, and new faculty across art biology and education departments.

Fair unveils new state fair cutting horse show

Oklahoma contenders from across the region travel to Oklahoma City for the State Fair of Oklahoma’s new National Cutting Horse Association contest. The October 2 event adds 700 dollars in added money, five classes including a non professional performance, with Sept. 9 entry deadline and Bruce Brown as superintendent.

Photo Contest Winner and No Contest This Week

The winner of last week's Photo Contest was B. F. Price of Ada who identified a conveyor belt to Lawrence the pump and Ada Mills grain tanks. There will be no contest this week.

Second Cuttings Completed On County Bermuda

The second cutting on the Bermuda grass fertility plots at Allen produced 47.85 tons from ten acres. One five acre George Bain plot yielded five tons per acre across two cuts. R. L. Pegg plot 4.57 tons per acre. Average crude protein of 10.5 percent from Noble Foundation Lab hay, vs 5.8 percent for unfertilized Bermuda. Fertilizer: 60 lb actual nitrogen, 60 lb actual potash, and 150 lb actual nitrogen per acre in split applications on April 12, May 4, and June 12. First cut June 11. second Aug 12.

County Fair Catalogs Available for 4 H and F F A Entries

County Agent's Office in the Courthouse offers fair catalogs with entry blanks for Open Class Home Demonstration 4H and F F A. Forms show exhibitor name address premium number and exhibit description. Official entry day is September 16 from 8 00 a m to 8 00 p m with some entries on September 15 from 4 00 p m to 9 00 p m for 4 H Leaders.

Ada enrollments total 2242 for 1965 66 term

Total Ada school enrolment for 1965 66 is 2242, announced by Supt Rex Morrison. Overall down 68 from last year. School start times vary: elementary 8 30, junior high 8 15 with short schedule afternoons. Senior high sophomores 9 juniors 10 seniors 11 on short afternoon schedule. Enrollment by grade lists counts and changes across all schools. Junior high total 544 and senior high 505, both with decreases.

Broadrick to Step Down as U S Marshal in Oklahoma

W M Bill Broadrick U S Marshal for the Eastern District of Oklahoma says he will not seek reappointment. He cites heavy duties and dual Ada Muskogee homes as reasons and plans to resign after a replacement is named. Broadrick, a former Pontotoc County sheriff, hints at future oil industry involvement.

Film Coats Tanks To Save Water In West

Washington AP says Agriculture Department scientists study a molecular film to blanket ponds reservoirs and small lakes as a method to conserve water. About 5 trillion gallons evaporate annually from farm ponds and reservoirs in 17 Western states enough to supply U.S. households for a year or cattle for over 20 states. Tests on blanketing small water bodies ongoing at the Water Conservation Laboratory in Tempe Arizona.
