President Truman and Governor Dewey clash over communism as both claim victory for their side would aid the nation and hinder the opposing party. The campaign trails cross from Boston to New York with volleys about liberty and security amid election suspense.
An altercation on SE 36 between Officer Stevens and oil worker Ernest Barefoot ended with Barefoot wounded in the leg after Stevens drew his pistol. Barefoot was taken to Morey hospital. A stray note mentions Disraeli predicting success of his maiden Commons speech.
Mostly cloudy tonight and Friday with showers starting west then spreading to the center and then the entire state by Friday night. Temperatures fall to around 30s tonight with highs near 75 in the west and rising elsewhere Friday.

Willard sixth graders spent Wednesday afternoon at Ada airport, touring the hangar and planes, viewing navigation basics, and learning about landing lights and facilities. The 40 students and eight mothers were chaperoned by Mrs. A. R. Wallace and Wess Smith as part of the air age education theme in city schools. A Perevine group plans 23 more visits Friday.

A fire at the Tide in Cos refinery caused damage early Oct. 28. About 3,000 barrels of crude oil and 10 tanks within a run-down battery were damaged or lost, with estimated values of 21,000 and 2,000 dollars respectively. No injuries reported. fire started by a spark from an electric switch in the pit. Explosions shook nearby windows as flames were contained.

Elk City Oklahoma October 23 Union Producing company in its first wildcat venture in west arm Oklahoma reports a new oil field south of Elk City with gas and oil shows at depth. A drill stem test at granite wash R638 66 feet reached total depth with a 5 8 inch bottom hole and 2 1/2 inch top choke. No damage to derrick or equipment and another test planned to induce flow of gas and distillate.
