Pvt. Leon Hale, from Ada, resumes civilian life after over four years in the army. He volunteered March 1, 1941 and served in the 5407th Composite Unit, the first U. S. ground combat force in Asia during WWII. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit badge, and Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon with one battle star. His unit led a notable advance in Burma and captured the airfield at Myitkyina on May 19, 1944. Hale plans to visit his mother in El Paso after visiting friends in Ada.

County Attorney Val Crawford and sheriff's deputies destroyed about $3,000 worth of slot machines in Hira on Monday under a district court order. The machines, seized September 13, were deemed illegal to operate in Oklahoma. Large sledgehammers shattered the machines, exposing cash departments. about four dollars in cash was recovered and turned over to the court fund.
