A German airliner bearing the anxious public toward a United States arrival made repeated efforts to land at Azores checkpoints before completing its transatlantic journey. The crew maintained steady communication with authorities as the long flight progressed toward its final destination.
The Heinkel hydro-airplane C-1220 arriving from Vigo landed at Lisbon due to a leaking feed pipe. Weather permitting, D-1229 will depart tomorrow toward the Azores and United States, while Barendrecht relay reports note Ruth Elder and Captain George Haldeman were safe after a broken oil line caused their sea landing near Paris.
