Youth Surrenders Over Auto Theft to Avoid Crime
WP J. D. Cook an 18 year old from Kansas City Missouri surrendered to Fort Smith officers on an auto theft charge to keep himself from committing further crimes. He waived preliminary hearing and will be moved to Kansas City for federal trial after admitting stealing a car at Claremore Oklahoma earlier this month. Aged Farmer Found Slain With Own Axe
A. M. Cupp a 79 year old Logan County farmer was found slain near a country road. Sheriff Farquharson is seeking a 20 year old ex convict from Granite Reformatory believed to have killed him in a robbery or extortion attempt. Neighbors found the body in a shallow grave after following tracks.

Governor Pleads For More WPA Projects In State
Oklahoma City October 11 Governor Phillips pressed for expanded works programs to tackle rising unemployment. After talks with WPA administrator Ron Stephens and state officials he said the state highway commission allocated 1 120 271 to match 1 577 168 in WPA funds for road construction and farm to market routes. He urged counties to sponsor projects, noted 276 000 in salvage and auto tax funds returned, and asked the soil conservation office to provide more jobs. Enid reports J E Fosier a 60 year old WPA shoemaker was found not guilty on two assault charges while Ross Parks acting supervisor of WPA relief was jailed four hours for contempt after refusing to release a statement from a girl involved in a shoe repair case.
