Guymon logs seven degrees. statewide lows include 10 in Gage and 29 in McAlester. three day rain totals relieve drought.
Arthur E. Summerfield is named to be postmaster general in the Eisenhower administration. The Flint Michigan auto dealer, 53, plans to resign as Republican National Committee chairman to devote full attention to the mail service. He noted he may sever business ties but will confirm details with the Senate.
PF Beavers at the Westemboon Lake forestry station chopped a 14 inch poplar tie that fell across a moored government boat severely damaging it. The incident occurred near the forestry camp and the boat was deemed beyond repair.

Henry Dew commander of Ho ward Maxey Post of the American Legion has been appointed a member of the National Distinguished Guests committee. His term runs until the close of the 1953 fall meeting of the National Executive committee. The Oklahoma Department recommended the appointment and the National Executive committee approved. Dew, a World Wars I and II veteran, has long been active in local Legion affairs and has helped with the Legion Junior Baseball program.
The Coal County Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Christmas event in Coalgate featuring a real Santa Claus and live reindeer. Santa arrives Monday at 10 a.m. at the community building for county children to meet and receive candy, with a helper to take orders for his December 24 return.
