Gov. Haskell made a flying trip to Guthrie and issued a call for a special session of the newly elected legislature to decide the state capital question. The meeting is set for Monday November 28 in Oklahoma City with two thirds support said to be pledged to locate the capital in Oklahoma City.
From Monday's Daily rumor has long circulated about adding a passenger train to the Katy. Inside information says a new four-coach train will debut between December 1 and 25, leaving Oklahoma City to connect with the limited at Atoka and returning north to Parsons, Kansas via Oklahoma City.
Eight men were selected Thursday evening by a mass meeting to form the citizens' ticket for the board of freeholders drafting the city charter if the commission plan passes. The chosen men are described as hard headed business people with experience to shape a strong charter for the state.
Sulphur Oklahoma November 19 The Ep worth League assembly of the East and West conferences of Oklahoma accepts a donation from J D Ramsey valued at 3000 dollars of land in the Ramsey Lake addition to Sulphur. Permanent improvements will be erected and the ground prepared. The Methodists are negotiating for another tract to build homes for superannuated preachers.
The cotton market opened about fifteen to sixteen points below yesterday's close but recovered to end near yesterday's level. Ada market traded around 14.25 cents per pound.
Ada United Charities held a Saturday meeting at city hall with President Briles presiding. A collection drive at public schools next Wednesday will accept cash and clothing donations to aid local families in need. The group has helped over fifty families this year with fuel provisions medicine and clothing and distributed about 250 dollars in cash plus clothing. Donations can be left with W B Jones at city hall. An executive committee includes W B Jones chair and several local ladies and gentlemen. ministers and teachers serve as ex officio members.
The Great Bee Carnival company reaches Ada after a wreck delay. Crews work west of the post office to set up shows and plan evening performances all week. The high dive is postponed tonight but will run each remaining evening, and the carnival appears as advertised.
Season receipts rise as of Saturday four o clock the county weigher logged 7 962 bales and the round bale gin produced 1 741. With half bales counted the yard totals reach 8 821 bales. Projections suggest the season may outpace 1904 when Ada marketed over 14,000 bales.
Duncan Oil Co. announces a $50 reward for information leading to the detection and conviction of anyone selling liquor or intoxicants to its employees at the Duncan mill. The notice warns against distillations and beverages used to intoxicate workers and mentions various unwanted substances and substitutes in a cautionary, forceful tone.
The football game between East Central Normal and the Oklahoma School for the Deaf at Sulphur Saturday was the most spirited in EC history. Ada won, stopping deaf scoring near their end while relying on Turner for the deaf and Ada backs Matthews Lawman Buttram Donaghey MacMillan Roddie.
Miss Kate Barnard leads Oklahoma efforts to curb guardianship abuses of Indian minors. In Craig county three Cherokee orphans at Pryor's state orphan's home face alleged underpriced allotment sales and mounting guardian charges. Authorities plan to expand probes across Atoka and other counties, aiming to restore property and halt losses.
Bert Vaden son of Capt. J. W. Vaden of Roff died at 4 AM from a head injury suffered Saturday about 1 AM after an altercation in a pool hall with John Jenkins. Sheriff Smith investigated the incident. Jenkins left for the south Saturday afternoon, possibly toward Sherman or Denison.
In Enid Oklahoma the commission plan of government has proven effective after ten months. The mayor and three commissioners have steadied city finances, turning warrants back to face value and attracting merchants who now supply the city expecting prompt payment once deliveries are made.
President C. W. Briles of the normal received a surprising bid for the presidency of Western College at Artesia New Mexico offering 2500 dollars a year. He appreciates the recognition but will not consider the proposition.
Eleven days after election Joseph Atwater an Oklahoma negro filed in the Supreme Court an appeal from Oklahoma courts ruling they refused to enjoin Oklahoma City election officials from denying him the vote on November 8. He argues the grandfather clause in the state constitution is invalid as it denies suffrage based on color or prior servitude.
At the recent election held in Wagoner the commission plan of city government was adopted by a vote of 250 to 35. Only two negroes were admitted to vote.
W H Altman of Hardwicke Bitter Hardware Co Sherman Tex notes firms avoid aldermanic cities due to slow payments and delays. He says commission-form towns gain prompt payment and higher trust from suppliers, who then seek local business without added risk.
A woman serves Dusty Dan pumpkin pie and coffee and asks about his regional visits during golden rod time. Dusty Dan grins and explains the period signals changing seasons, noting it is not exactly poetical but marks a lull between mowing and snow shoveling.
W Cummings and wife have sold their lease on the Central hotel on 12th street to J G Pillows of Wapennucka. He will arrive in a day or two and take hold of the business.
Six councilmen and the mayor met to discuss Byrds Mill water and asphalt. A proposed deed to Gabriel Brown’s ninety acres may be issued to Ada pending a check and voter ratification. Councilman Grigsby opposed action without authority. An engineer will estimate water project costs before bond votes, with Goodwin of Kansas City to be consulted. The Shelby Downard Co. offered to use Pontotoc material and asphalt with specified rock and tests. The engineer was instructed to proceed per contract after discussion of paving specifications.
Morris, Oklahoma's threshing candidate Carl Morris, a Santa Fe fireman, knocked out Battling Britt of Henryetta in the first round. Britt went down twice before the decisive right hand. About one thousand spectators watched as Mort lay used the punch to end the bout amid special trains from several surrounding towns.
The El Reno carnival company drew a large crowd despite chilly weather. June the diving horse impressed with a big splash into the water pit. Exhibitions included animals such as badgers, porcupines, armadillos, snakes, a monster snake, and a wild Geema with snakes. The boxing kangaroo and a tiny Dixie horse also attracted attention under good management.
Tuesday report warns Ada faces a serious water crisis as reservoir levels fall and the old north side well work remains incomplete. City authorities notify cement plants mills stockyards gins and other users of imminent water cutoffs in a few days, with rain seen as the only relief.
Shortly before noon a fire alarm was turned in from the red gin. Firemen responded and found the blaze out upon arrival. The fire started in the second gin stand and spread to the condenser and press, but quick action by the employer knocked it out with little cotton damage.
The Electical World cites Thomas Edison holding about 905 patents, mainly on electrical and phonograph tech. His first electrographic vote recorder dates to June 1862, with peak activity in 1881 to 1884 on incandescent lamp and machinery, and 1882 and 1881 yielding 75 and 69 patents respectively. Estimates suggest nearly 2,000 Edison inventions when pending and unfiled patents are included.
The Schubert Slam Phony Co will perform at the city hall on December 5 under the Lady Maccabees. Half the proceeds go to seating the city hall auditorium.
