Pontotoc county voters backed the Democratic ticket in Tuesday polls, delivering large majorities across races from president to county offices. Strong support for party candidates marked the election day in the county.
Unofficial Pontotoc county returns list Roosevelt 6 351 and Dewey 3 020 for president with Thomas 6 353 and Otten 2 877 for senate. Boren 6 565 and Kirchner 2 606 win congress. Davison 6 856 over McArthur 2 157 in supreme court race.
U S Pacific Fleet reports Nimitz says Third Fleet strikes at Manila destroyed 440 Japanese planes and damaged eight ships plus sank two warships. Additional communique notes 249 planes added and new destroyer losses. emphasis on air domination over Manila as Leyte invasion airfield targets are neutralized.
Oklahoma voters gave Roosevelt and Truman about 70 thousand more votes than Dewey Bricker with 363 577 to 293 460 as 3244 precincts reported. GOP won 17 counties including Tulsa and the agricultural counties as Dewey Bricker campaigned nationwide.
Elmer Thomas won decisively over W. J. Otten on Tuesday, ensuring he will begin his fourth six year term in January. The win extends his 18 year senate tenure and solidifies his national leadership role.
Oklahoma City reports incumbent U S Senator Elmer Thomas won a fourth term by a large margin 329 258 to 273 865 after 3222 of 3672 precincts in the state. Otjen carried several northern counties but Thomas still secured re election promising support for President Roosevelt. Thomas’s career began in the Oklahoma Senate in 1907 and included a 1926 U S Senate victory.
Roosevelt builds a large electoral edge as New Jersey shifts back to the Democrats. Ohio and Michigan show uncertain results with uncounted ballots likely affecting the final tally. Wayne County cuts into Dewey’s Michigan lead while Oregon reports Roosevelt ahead.
Denver N. Davison of Ada and Oklahoma City defeated Ada attorney C. L. McArthur by a decisive margin to win re election to the state supreme court.
In Oklahoma City on November 8, Democratic incumbents swept into new terms at the state capitol. Ray O. Weems led with 293,806 votes, defeating Page Belcher, while Enid’s 206,434 votes secured a Republican tally. Judge Dick Jones earned another term as presiding judge.
U S 24th division and four Japanese divisions clash in rugged ridges below Pinamoppoan as Americans push toward Ormoc. Heavy artillery shells Carigara Bay positions while Japanese strike behind the moving column, with stiff resistance near Limon four miles south of Pinamoppoan.
Ada High School band will hold its first meeting of the school year tonight, announced by Gene Ford, band director. The gathering is for organization purposes only and no music will be played. All interested students are urged to attend to help decide daily practice times.

R T Hutchins heads Vanoss FFA with a group of FFA boys to present at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon in the Aldridge hotel. They will explain current projects and future plans as a large crowd is expected.
The union Chamber of Commerce weekly meeting begins at 8 with a business session. Jaycee Minstrel chairman Mancel Brooks urges all involved to attend. The group has until December 7 to ready the show for the Junior High school auditorium.
Colfax California November 8 twelve persons died when the westbound Southern Pacific Challenger derailed at Lan der three miles west of Colfax early today Coroner Francis E West announced.
New York reports Gov. Dewey conceding defeat after Roosevelt wins a fourth term. He offers congratulations to Roosevelt, hopes for victory in the war, lasting peace, and restored tranquility, and praises the Republican party’s revival and commitment to free government.

Ardmore army sub-station closed since October 28 and recruiting now handled by Oklahoma City. Ardmore’s WAC recruiters transferred to Oklahoma City continue to seek women army corps for medical technicians and general hospital work, with Lt Connie Condit, Col Autumn Mener and Cpl William Leonard in Ada Monday and Tuesday. Headquarters are at the Chamber of Commerce office in the Aldridge Hotel.
Egyptian police launched a nationwide hunt for several dozen Jewish terrorists after two Jews from Palestine confessed to assassinating Lord Moyne the British resident minister in the Middle East. The suspects said they belonged to the Stern gang and other members were in hiding. A Cairo police official said perfidy saw a mission mirroring Moyne's slaying. The men named were Mosche Cohen Itzak and Ch. Salzmann.
In unofficial returns from 1,663 precincts Dewey leads Roosevelt in Colorado with 155,432 to 130,495 while Millikin gathers 157,674 against Bailey L. Whatley. Governor Vivian posts 151,499 over Roy Best's 134,136 as the race tightens.
Oklahoma City reports Gov. Robert S. Kerr at the Chicago Democratic National Convention calling Roosevelt's re election the people's greatest political victory in 80 years. He credited public support for wartime leadership and postwar international cooperation ensuring peace and jobs for veterans and workers.
