Oklahoma City reports 266 deer taken through October 29 in the archery season, up from 182 at the same point in 1973. The third week yielded the season’s largest whitetailed buck, an eight pointer near Alva, with field-dressed weight of 218 pounds and live weight about 280 pounds, a record for the season.
Tulsa’s Camelot Inn will host the Oklahoma Farm Bureau 33rd annual state meeting beginning November 17. More than 1,000 farm leaders are slated for a four day session with tours to Port of Catoosa Will Rogers Museum and the Davis Gun Collection in Claremore and the Arkansas River Navigation complex at Indla. The program includes voting on guidelines and policies plus a legislative workshop led by Jim Williams.
USDA figures show farm milk price increased in mid October but dairy cow feed costs also rose, widening the milk to feed ratio to 1.17. It marks the lowest parity level in 27 years with parity at 71 percent, while corn prices hit a record 3.45 per bushel.
Pontotoc County Conservation District chair 8B M Stephens says a national awards program for environmental education teachers will run next year. Co sponsored by NACD and Allis Chalmers offers 1500 dollars to the top winner plus a trip to the NACD national meeting and regional honors. Eligible teachers include those in any school system within the district who emphasize environmental conservation in classwork. Nomination info available at the Ada district office, 105 N Center.
