A USDA report finds the screwworm eradication program using sterile male flies generally effective since 1962, with breaks in 1968 1972 and 1973 and projected livestock losses avoided. The effort aims to maintain a barrier along the southwest border and relies on widespread support from growers.
Lard production and per capita use hit two-decade lows as farmers raise fewer and skinnier hogs. For the year ended Sept. 30, production fell below 1.1 billion pounds, with hog slaughter down to 73 million. Exports dropped to about 150 million pounds, and 1976 may see further declines.

About 4 500 rainbow trout were stocked Oct 25 in the designated Blue River fishing area opening the angling season along 1.75 miles of the stream. A 1974 75 survey shows anglers averaged 3.01 fish per visit and one fish every two hours for 12 195 anglers last year. Daily creel limit is six with 12 in possession after day one. He cites grain deficits by 1985 if trends continue and promotes using research, technology transfer, and moral considerations to feed a growing world population.
The Delta Weighing and Inspection Bureau in Myrtle Grove Louisiana will have its USDA grain inspection designation revoked on November 17. An interim arrangement will authorize another New Orleans area agency to handle Myrtle Grove inspections until a replacement is named. A separate agriculture bill in the House would raise the national minimum rice acreage allotment to 1.8 million acres and set a target price of $8 per 100 pounds with a $6 loan level for 1976, with the measure approved 32 to 8.
