Byron Norrell visits Floyd Andersen a former service man on his farm east of Oakman. Andersen markets poultry with a three time incubator and plans to expand fruit trees and grapes. Norrell notes overall crop conditions improving after recent showers and reports variable corn stands with signs of recovery from Monday night rain.
Research at Oklahoma A and M college shows alfalfa can profitably grow on uplands with lime and barnyard manure. Prof. H F Murphy notes many farmers lack bottom land but benefit from a legume in soil fertility. Trials at Stillwater with lime and manure yielded higher pounds per acre compared with other treatments.
Mrs Callie Templeman of Van Nuys is the cousin of R and visits relatives this weekend with other relatives in tow.
The Norman Howard post library moves toward a public community library as legion members donate shelves and about 500 books have been received. Commander Kerr pushes for enough shelves to hold all donated volumes while Librarian Overturf classifies items and plans a public opening.
The coming two months will see county office hopefuls bow to the public with some races already forming. Current officeholders Nabors and Walker face sheriff challenges. Brantley, Stephens and Heatley seek district one commissioner. Brooks, Pace, Nordean and Brents vie for district three. Parrie Britt challenges Floyd for county school superintendent. Chamberlain runs against Westbrook for county treasurer.
Tornadoes sweeping through Mississippi Alabama and Louisiana last night and today left 35 dead and more than 70 injured. Widespread property damage reported with Collins and Johnson Station hit hard. Brookhaven and nearby areas also damaged as wires down delayed details.
A. A. Brooks, farmer, was shot to death two miles south of Pocasset. Moonshiners A. P. Lowd and Alvin Lovett allegedly confessed to the crime. They said they had been making whiskey on the Brooks farm and hid the still. Brooks fired as they moved to take whiskey. Lowd claimed he fired back and killed Brooks. Sheriff records 350 gallons of corn whiskey found on the pasture.
The conference tax bill, already passed by the Senate, won House approval by a 137 to 9 vote. It offers a 25 percent income tax reduction this year, broad rate revisions, and a 25 percent cut for earned incomes up to $10,000. President Coolidge’s stance remains uncertain amid treasury concerns over publicity limits on returns and estate tax changes.
The Ada Evening News earned second place in a nationwide contest for best editorial page conducted by the National Education Association. Publisher W. D. Little and editor Byron Norrell praised the honor and commitment to constructive community service, vowing continued improvement.
East Central's 1924 Summer Session enrollment exceeds 2000 with demand rising toward a record turnout. As districts close Friday, figures will be finalized next Monday. Overcrowded classrooms fill every hour, forcing use of private offices and repurposed spaces in Ada facilities.
The Ada high school graduation honors 56 seniors tonight at the Convention Hall as 373 city students are recognized for completing their education across all Ada departments. Rev E O Whitwell will urge service as graduates move into new endeavors following district ward school ceremonies held last night with 110 certificates issued.
County commissioners push summer road work to handle expected traffic. Grading leads the effort with plans for later improvements. Ada Stratford road and Maxwell township routes receive major attention. Canadian toll bridge progresses with north pier finished and south pier excavation complete. tubes installed and other sections advancing. Bridge hoped ready by August first.

Congress man Tom D. McKeown announced the bill to designate Ada as a federal court town has passed the Senate and goes to the president for signature. The measure, already approved by the House, would bring federal court sessions and attract visitors and employment to Ada.
Regular county court conducted by District Judge J W Bolen with motions demurrers and non jury issues. Several judgments were granted and other civil matters were carried over as the court progressed through the docket. The session showed swift progress and focused on a divorce suit by noon.
The third quarterly conference of the Methodist church at Lightning Ridge will be held Sunday morning after the 11 o clock service. Presiding Elder W. Grimes and church officials urged to be present.
Ada Shriners prepare a special train caravan to Kansas City for the Imperial Council Shrine convention on June 3. DelphI mascot Delphi travels with a band and local souvenirs from Ada to 20 en route stops in Oklahoma Kansas and Missouri. The group aims to gain support for Delphi Temple at Ada and seeks a prominent role in the Kansas City events.
The Baptist Men's Bible Class gospel teams schedule five Sunday afternoon engagements at five oclock. Team 1 travels to Egypt, Team 2 to Fitzhugh, Team 3 to Knox, Team 4 to Laxton, and an extra team to Pecan Grove. J C Hynds leads the drive, noting high demand for more work and inviting communities to request visits.
A tornado five miles north of Stringtown killed Joseph Jett and four of his children, with Mrs. Jett fatally injured. The Jett home was demolished, cattle and horses perished, and medical aid was dispatched from Atoka. A separate windstorm near Tulsa caused little damage, and Claremore saw hail and damaged lines. Twelve people were in the Jett house when the storm struck.
A tornado tore through Wetumka late May 2 leaving seven dead and many injured. About 100 people are homeless and housed at relief stations. Total property damage reaches $150,000 with relief funds requested to assist immediate needs. A mass funeral is planned, including a military service for W. Y. Armstrong.
Ada business districts prepare for Oklahoma American Legion convention with flag poles cemented in sidewalks. About 3000 veterans expected. poles donated, decorations sold at cost to dress the city patriotically. Clarence West supervises arrangements for Memorial Day and the convention.
