Canned Meat Plentiful Says WFA Amid War Foods Review

Meat experts from the Office of Price Administration and War Food Administration say no shortages of canned meat are expected as fresh meat supplies dwindle. Packers run at full capacity, stocks are strong, and much of the current meat supply is suitable for canning. A new order allows meat loaf to be put up in glass. Last year’s nationwide canning was higher than 1942 with over a billion pounds of pork, 150 million beef, and 599 million other meats canned, much of which went to military stocks. The gradual removal of meat from rationing aims to keep canners moving and preserve home supplies.
