Experts Forecast $3 Billion Federal Deficit Amid Tax Proposals
Washington observers who advise Congress on taxes projected a 3 billion dollar deficit for the coming fiscal year starting July 1, based on January budget figures. They noted a moderate decline in business activity and cautioned that higher government spending or tax hikes could alter the outlook. The advisers, led by Colin Stam, presented no specific policy recommendations to the joint tax committee. They also noted a historical note that Troy in Asia Minor predates 1500 B C and was renamed Mun around 1214 B C.
