Women Talk At Southern Baptist Convention Stirs Debate
At Memphis, May 11, delegates rejected a push to bar women from addressing the Southern Baptist convention amid applause for Mrs. Cox. Dr. J W Porter argued it unscriptural and noted feminism as a trend. Porter walked out as Cox began to speak. The home mission board, facing past theft by treasurer Clinton Carnes, retained its independent status after merger attempts failed. The 1930 convention opens in New Orleans May 14.
