Hailstorm Ravages Ada and Pontotoc County Farmlands

Ada and Pontotoc County endured one of the worst hailstorms in the area's history. Hail damaged gardens and early crops, with 1.35 inches of rain soaking the night and heavy waters flooding East Main Street portions. The storm followed a long rain deluge lasting about 20 minutes of hail.

University Geologists Visit Ada From Norman Field Trip

Forty eight geology students from the University of Oklahoma led by Dr. Charles E. Decker toured Pontotoc county and Ada's Arbuckle region. The group examined surface formations, collected fossils, and discussed the contribution of Pontotoc county to national geology programs.

The Oil and Gas Journal reports a 46 595 barrel daily rise in U S crude output for the week ending May 7 totaling 2 512 493 barrels. Texas led with 26 326 barrels daily, Seminole 12 630, Oklahoma 12 515, Mid- Continent 37 415, and California 5 500 more per day.

Good Will tour will visit Ada on May 20 as capital wholesalers see a city in a building boom. New churches cost 165000, Pontotoc county court building 175000, East Central college expansion 10000, plus a new five story hotel and remodeling projects. Oil wealth from Seminole area finances Ada growth and improvements include resurfacing main street and a new white way lighting system. Ada Chamber of Commerce supports attracting industries and better citizens.

Plans for Harris Hotel Addition in Ada

Ada plans outline a five story rear addition to the Harris hotel by owner Sam Harris. The addition adds 75 rooms, each with a bath, an elevator, a new lobby, and front entry. The front three stories stay while future expansion may extend the front and occupy the full 100 by 140 feet.

Oklahoma Sheriff Appeals Over Contempt Writ In Owens Case

Sheriff Ben Dancy filed a response with the criminal court of appeals claiming he cannot produce O. O. Owens, Tulsa oil man, jailed in Oklahoma county, after Owens was found guilty of contempt of the supreme court. He asks that the habeas corpus hearing be dissolved and that he not be required to act against the supreme court order. The supreme court directed Edwin Dabney to collect the $5,000 fine Owens was ordered to pay within ten days.

Edith Bishop Guilty Suspected in Husband Murder Trial

Oklahoma City May 19 County Attorney J K Wright testified he believed Mrs Edith Bishop guilty of killing her husband Luther after investigating last December. He stated he advised her to tell the truth and recounted questioning at his office the day after Bishop’s death.

The Ada Investment company will start work Monday on Arlington Addition. Streets will be improved and bridges built as the addition is prepared for market. Some residences are erected. owners plan to sell more lots this spring and summer. Water gas and lights will be available soon. The addition lies at the northeast corner of the city near the Allen Highway.
