San Jose Costa Rica May 9 More than 1000 dead have been taken from the ruins of Cartago. Red Cross workers soldiers and volunteers clear debris remove bodies and dynamite dangerous buildings. Survivors are in San Jose as medicines and food from American warships are rushed in.
An explosion at the General Explosives plant near Hull Quebec killed fifteen and injured fifty. The blast shattered Hull and Ottawa area, toppled trees and shattered glass miles away. Spectators at a nearby baseball game fled as the magazine detonated, hospital aid followed.
Enid Okla May 9 District Judge Garber continued hearings in the Waters-Pierce Oil and Standard Oil dissolution case to May 23 to allow H Clay Pierce, said to be in Mexico, to appear as a witness. The judge allowed a continuance after a deposition was offered and an order required Pierce’s presence within a reasonable time. The record notes oil grade prices differ with Kansas selling 6 cents and Oklahoma 11 cents.

Workmen digging in a vacant field at Bergen uncover 900 Norwegian silver coins from the thirteenth century epoch of Erik Magnussen. The coins are all identical and in excellent preservation, and the find was presented to the Archæological Museum in Christiania today.

Guthrie May 9 The McKanna Power Development and Irrigation Company capitalized at 500000 with headquarters in Oklahoma City and Ada was chartered. Directors include Dr J J McKanna Oklahoma City J E Smith M I Wall A H Constant Ada and Bell McKanna Oklahoma City. The charter allows building an electric interurban system southeast from Oklahoma City and operating electric light power gas plants waterworks and irrigating ditches.
