After twenty years in the old location the Roff Post Office will relocate to a new 1 041 square foot building across the street. The $9 000 structure is owned and built by O E Bigler who recently completed a post office at Stratford Davis and Pawnee. A six foot rear overhang provides a loading dock.
Postmaster Stanley Roff says the move to a new concrete block building with brick veneer front will occur on May 14. The 23 by 44 foot structure includes tile floors fluorescent lighting air conditioning and central heating. The post office will have 198 box sections while current space holds 179. The operation will retain a rural route of 81 miles serving 1242 families and includes a postal savings depository noted as a feature rarely offered by smaller offices.
Ronnie Snelgroves, a Roff 4-H member, won the grand champion with four dressed broilers at the county show held Tuesday. He earned 10 dollars plus 18 37 from Ada grocer Frank Dicus who bought the birds at 1 50 per pound. Reserve champion was Larry Newby of Vaness who won 10 80 and 1 per pound. The event drew 37 exhibitors and aimed to boost broiler production and marketing. Sponsoring firms were Trader Mills Ada Feed and Seed and Harris Grocery Ada and Roff. Dicus bought all entries at 5 cents above market, with extra for champions.
The Pon totoc Coal Livestock Association sponsors the third regular feeder pig sale Friday at 1 p.m. in Ada at the Ada Livestock Auction on West Main Street. A total of 1 158 pigs have been consigned by 34 consignors. Auctioneer will be Osborn Bagwell of Doniphan Missouri.
Galey School will open in a new three room frame building this fall after voters approved a 5600 bond. Demolition of the old 1923 structure begins around May 20 under supervision of a local contractor with labor donated by patrons. Principal M R Tucker notes two teachers and 49 students.
About 40 representatives from Ada met Thursday night April 30 to approve the flood control work plan for the Upper Clear Boggy watershed submitted by the Soil Conservation Service. The plan calls for 54 dams and lakes across 162 240 acres with 30 in Pontotoc County 22 in Coal and 2 in Johnston. The project aims to cut average annual flooding by 68.4 percent and reduce damages from 288 470 to 39 978 dollars yearly with a total cost of about 4 566 054 dollars. Acquisition of necessary easements will permit detention reservoirs and construction to begin in the next fiscal year starting July 1.
Pontotoc County farmers who borrow from the Farmers Home Administration have completed their farming plans for the year. Twenty two borrowers are sodding bermuda grass for better pastures and many plan sudan for summer pasture. They test soils and apply recommended fertilizer, plan early fall and winter pastures to maintain milk production and reduce feed costs. Paul R. Clayton, FHA supervisor, notes 18 Grade A dairymen are keeping better milk production records.
A Fitts town Baptist letter from Mary Ellen Johnson and Paul, supported by Mary Ellen and Paul Johnson, describes training with Wycliffe Bible Translators in southern Mexico. They detail camps near Chiapas, bush pilot work, jungle living, local Tzeltal villages, and preparations to build a lean-to dwelling as they learn Spanish and endure hardship.
Latta patrons will vote May 19 on a $233000 building bond to add a new grade school and high school with a lunchroom, gym, and six classrooms. Monroe Parker is the architect. polling runs 2 to 6 p.m. at the school. The plan also repurposes the existing high school into a junior high and demolishes the current gym and main building.
New owners Mr. and Mrs. Ray Roberts assume the Center grocery on May 1, succeeding Mr. and Mrs. James Alexander. The note mentions local moves, a funeral, health updates on Mrs. Susan Grove, and community events including picnics, a YMCA-like gathering, and school activities with trips to Oklahoma City and a fashion show at the high school.

Mr and Mrs Oren Gray attended the service at Vanessa Sunday afternoon for the graduation. They had a granddaughter Miss Lynda Gray who is graduating this term.
A Sunday afternoon singing event took place at Center Community Church with local performers and church members participating in an informal musical gathering. The program featured hymns and seasonal songs in a welcoming communal setting.
Mr and Mrs R C Daniels planned a quiet Sunday but the day grew large with the presence of their son in law and daughter Jim Lambert and his wife, two great grandchildren Linda and Gus Jerkes from Francis, and an unexpected visit from Roy and wife Mayes of El Paso. The reunion led to lively visiting and celebrations.
Mr and Mrs Owen Scott of Guymon arrived Friday to stay until Monday with her father and brother T L Wise and Henry Wise.
Reverends Lampkin Lilley and others from Stonewall joined Jim and Mrs McLain hosting at Jesse Friday night. First Methodist notes a “spare” pastor in case of absence. Richard Hedges delayed in Dallas at SMU. Sybil Stokes preached the morning sermon. No Sunday services next week due to high school graduation activities.
Mr and Mrs Dave Roberts returned Saturday from a three week stay in Excelsoir Springs where Mr Roberts underwent surgery and was reported improving conditions at home.
Mrs Lavona Jones notes good turnout at Union Hill Baptist Church. Dr Warren Fulton preached both services. Rev and Mrs Frank Cunningham were away due to the death of his sister in Illinois. A Mother's Day service with gifts for oldest mother and top Sunday School contributor. Special singing by Albert Crow Eddie and Fred Jones.
Mrs Sible Collins and Mrs Nora Roper and Ronda visited Mrs Lillie Karr Friday. They also visited Mr and Mrs Charlie Crow and Mrs Loretta Kite and boys of Healdton last week. Mr Crow has been moved home from Ardmore hospital. His condition is improving after a sudden heart attack suffered several days ago.
Mr and Mrs Don Newby and Mrs Lavona Jones with Benny and Glenn visited Mr and Mrs Olen in a family gathering.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Corbin of Ada visited Mr and Mrs Walter McAnally and family last week.
Mr and Mrs J T Tatum and family and Mr and Mrs Junior Long of Ada visited Mr and Mrs William Henson and family this weekend.
Mrs Lillie Karr attended the wedding shower for Janell Bolin Friday night at the home of Mrs Connie Nelson.
Mrs Sible Collins fixed a lunch for her son Billy Joe and grandson Bobby to take to work. Bobby slept in the car during the morning and woke for lunch when his father returned from work. He then ate all the food available.
